Photography Courses at Portmeirion are unique.  The astonishing estate in North Wales was built by the eccentric architect Clough Williams Ellis. Williams Ellis referred to it as his “home for fallen buildings,” as he was sent bits of buildings from all over the country and assembled them into an incredible village that became the fashionable place to be between the wars.

It was used as the perfect backdrop for “The Prisoner” in the 1960’s, and more recently in music videos (Supergrass’s “Alright”) and Captain Adorable. We have the run of “the village” and the spectacular gardens.  We can even access the camera obscura, which is not normally open to the public.  It makes a fantastic place for a photography residential course by taking courses on consecutive days and staying in the village or hotel.  Discounts are available for accommodation if you are taking photography course – please ask at the village.  For more details see www.portmeirion-village.com

A word of weather warning – Portmeirion is a peninsular projecting into warm Gulf Stream waters, so it tends to be warmer and drier than you expect. If you like traditional Snowdonia downpours, this might not be the venue for you!
