We had the opportunity to take a few shots while we were teaching at Shugborough.  We concentrated on changing depth of field and changing shutter speeds, as you can see.

Thanks to Tony in the walled garden!

We can’t guarantee that you’ll take pictures like this if you come to Shugborough,  you’ll probably do better. DSC_6882DSC_6881DSC_6880_DSC0157_DSC0148_DSC0142_DSC0133

_DSC2603.NEFBy popular demand we’ve added a two day photography course at Portmeirion on Monday July 27th and Tuesday July 28th.  We’ve done this to accommodate some overseas visitors, and we’ve timetabled a DSLR course on the Monday, and a Creative Photography course on the Tuesday.  Why not join us for either or both days?  Accommodation can be arranged In the village,  which as you may know is an amazing place to visit and to stay.  The course will include a private tour by Portmeirion’s own Meurig Jones, who knows every photogenic nook and cranny of the village.  Be seeing you!

Phil and Rachel teach most of our photography courses, and an exhibition of their work opened last night before touring England, and we feel the need to tell everyone about it!  We spent a week (pro bono) at Megan Baker House, where they use conductive education to help people who have been brain injured by cerebral palsy, head injury or Parkinson’s Disease.  Megan Baker House provided this for free, and people travel there from all over the country to re-learn how to use their limbs.  To find out more about their work have a look at www.meganbakerhouse.org.uk

It’s been an inspiration to see them at work, and we hope our pictures capture some of this.  The exhibition will be touring to Malvern, Worcester, Hereford and Liverpool, among other UK cities.

We photographed the clients using very wide apertures to accentuate their individuality and to blur a cluttered background.  It’s a working space, not a studio!

Photography course finds the best and worst of Worcester

55-169DSC_0295DSC_0298DSC_0334wb2DSC_0295The idea of this shoot was to take pictures with a point of view, to show Worcester in it’s best and worst light. We were amazed by the quality and diversity of the pictures, as we often are!  These pictures were taken by the beginners photography course in Worcester – with a blue sky and (mostly) clean streets, this time the challenge was to find unflattering bits of Worcester.  These pictures are by Jenny, David, Mike and Lucy.  Just to make it harder,  the pictures had to be specifically Worcester (as if photographing for Worcestershire Life or Marxism Today), not just pretty or ugly subjects.  This is a very mixed class by age, sex, experience and camera, but they all found good targets for their lenses and caught them well.0013
