We had a go at taking intimate portraits that didn’t include faces.  How can you describe someone without showing their face?  Quite easily really!

Amy and Jacqui showed how it can be done.   These pictures were taken yesterday as part of All Yours Photography’s Wednesday evening group at the Plough, Worcester.

Photography course at Malvern College

We were asked to teach creative photography to a group of year 8 pupils at The Downs – Malvern College Preparatory School in Worcestershire.  The pupils took pictures around the campus, edited them in iPhoto and printed and mounted the final product.

The range of styles was fantasic, with great ideas coming from the children. We think photographing through letterboxes could really catch on!

Here is Rachel with some of the finished product – sadly we can’t show the children.DSC_6580

Mastering the half press

Posted in Uncategorized on June 19th, 2009 by Phil and Rachel – Be the first to comment

One thing we talk about a lot on our photography courses is the “half press.”  It lets you focus on a subject that is not in the centre of your picture.  When Phil took this picture yesterday,  first he pointed the camera at the dog, half pressed so that that camera focused, then moved the camera so that the dog wasn’t in the middle, then pressed the button fully and took the picture.  The camera has exposed and focused the picture as if the dog was in the middle of the picture,  but we get to see Monti’s surroundings.

Most compositions look better without the main subject in the middle of the frame, so this is something you’ll need to do often.  It makes quite a difference for very little effort – the kind of tip we really like!!_DSC3209

Bob’s amazing panoramas

Once upon a time Robert Bilsand came to one of our photography courses (this is before photography made simple, but it was still us). Now he takes these amazing panoramas (as well as amazingly making us look presentable on the website).

These pictures are of the Malvern Hills – panoramas that show both sides of the hills at once.  Click on them a couple of times to have a look and see if you can see the train!

Yellow and blue go together, don’t you think?
